| Will more people honor him as a great and talented actor? I'm eager to hear your opinions? | |

| Well....(and these are just my opinions)..
He will definitely be more bankable, and thus more directors may be calling him up taking the chance that perhaps he has mastered the craft of acting.
He may totally change perspective and seek out better written scripts and avoid silly romantic comedies, thus narrowing his focus.
He may come think he's reached the pinnacle of his career and wonder what there is to do after. And may even start to doubt his ability to match that intensity & quality. Thus, he could become more anxious about future projects.
And..it could all go to his head. Even better clout for clubbing!

| ....or...
instead of "would you like to come up and see my etchings," it'll be "would you like to come up and see my Oscar."
(I''m soooo mean)
Only kidding guys.

| , Amanda! Seriously, I agree that it will put more pressure on him to take on more "meaty" roles to show his acting chops aren't lost on this one film. | |

| I think it will give him a certain degree of respect/clout/cred from the industry and will give him more choice roles to choose from. However, this may only be short term. He will have to capitalize on that intial boost to his career by making smart choices on his follow-up films. There's something they call "the Oscar curse".
I think he will have his pick initially of meatier roles. What concerns me is how easily he gets bored. He has said countless times about how he likes to do one type of film and switch to another type for his next film, mixing it up. In some ways that's very smart. It shows his versatility and might help him avoid being overly type cast as one type of character or being in one particular genre.
On the other hand, I think it would serve him well to do more well-respected, meatier, whatever you want to call it, roles for a while. Build up his industry cred for a while, and when he's more critically respected and they've seen what he can accomplish, then he could mix it up a little with "popcorn" movies that aren't as deep (rom coms, action flicks).
Look at actors like Robert DeNero and Jack Nicholson. They made their names by doing mostly serious, Oscar caliber roles. Then, when they were older and had already proven themselves as acting legends, they started taking silly, fun roles (Analyze This, Meet the Parents, Anger Management). They had already established themselves as acting titans, so they could afford to.
I think Gerry could learn something from that.

| I'm someone who doesn't believe that the Acadamy Award prize necessarily goes to the better actors, nor that it is a level to which professionals must aspire.
I believe it is a prize/award for an industry (albeit a well-known one) just as others receive plaques/awards for their work and actions. In my opinion, it is a sign of recognition and appreciation that has been tainted lately by politicking and dollars.
If I were a professional actor, I would more lean towards developing my skills (over a period of time or career length) so well that my own character would be barely discernible within my movie characters ie. much as Sean Penn, Downey Jnr etc does. Any extra eg. awards would be a bonus, not a driving force/career goal.

| One big change would be how he is billed and introduced. He would from then on be "Academy Award Winner Gerard Butler."
I think he's losing weight so that he would look exactly like an Oscar statue.

However the only fault if any that I find with Gerry's skills is the mastering of American accents. He does tend to slip back into his brogue even in this current role from what I can tell from the trailer. He's the only actor I can think of who's able to get away with this because the emotions/physicality for his roles are strong enough for most of his audience not to even care (including me).

His acting is must be good enough that he keeps getting jobs that require him to do accents. I wanted (and still do) to kill Kevin Costner for his non-accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I've seen only 1 KC film once since then, and only because I wanted to know how the story ended.
