Scottish hero Rob Roy eluded capture by escaping into the wild Trossachs, and today top-drawer celebrities have made it their own Highland hideout.

Secluded at the end of a narrow, winding road, Monachyle Mhor makes a luxurious spot for an incognito getaway. Stars such as Ewan McGregor and Gerard Butler have stayed at the small country hotel. Even Prince William dined at TV chef Tom Lewis’s table and got into some Highland high jinks.

Believe it or not, I actually enquired about staying there on my 2007 trip.

The area is just divine. I drove off the main highway (by their standards) and followed a little dirt/gravel one lane road to Balquhidder to see Rob Roy's gravesite.

If I ever get myself funded, it will not be by commercial planes or through the stupid airports where you either get virtually stripped or molested. I'm pretty much done flying. At least until I don't have to give up my rights to privacy and dignity and humanity.

Haven't been on a real road trip in a long time. I liked the road trips where the trip is part of the plan, instead of just the end destination. Don't think I can take a road trip to Scotland.
