| To begin with, I'm not sure if this is in any way appropriate for this forum. (I'm sure Donna will let me know if it isn't ) But I can't make up my mind and I could use some help. You may know that I scribble a bit, and I think I may have let my mouth overload my --um---butt (as they say in my part of the country) a little. A friend wanted a large drawing or painting of a tall ship and I said "No problem". Of course, I've never ever drawn a ship (let alone paint one--a lot of other things, but never a sailing ship) So I thought I would do a quick scribble to see if my idea would work. I guess the real question is whether I should continue working with this kind of ship or go simpler? Also, the finished work can be watercolor ( my watercolors are very fast and loose) or this style only larger with much more detail. I know there are a lot of artistic members on this forum and I value your opinions. So here's the test scribble. What do you think?

| First glance: Looks like a sailboat. Tall. With lots of sails.
I don't know about the 3 sails in the front being stacked that way. They are way too close to each other to get wind. Probably too many sails for a boat that size.
Since this isn't your usual subject, you might want to Google sailing boat images. I'm sure there are millions available. You should get a real feel for it after a few dozens. Might even learn a lot about boats and ships and sailing.
Your boat sure does look pretty. Any sailboat I draw looks like two triangles on a stick stuck in a banana.

| Sharabella, I have no idea if it is accurate as a sailing boat (sails etc) but I like it. Your use of pale blue paper and white pastel show a delicate hand. Nice work.
I'd certainly keep going on this one. My only suggestion would be to put something else (small) into the frame also eg. seagull, person, boat name etc. It gives the eye something to search for and wonder about.

| This is just a pre-drawing scribble. The real one (if I don't paint it) will be on a slightly darker paper and at least twice the size. The sails are accurate for the perspective.--It's the ship I have a little wrong. I'm not sure if it's the best choice, but "The Californian" is probably the prettiest ship afloat. Thank you. I tend to have a little trouble judging my stuff, because I'm too close to it. The mind image tends to overlap the drawn one. But now I see a couple of things that need to be corrected in the next one. Do you think, (Properly corrected and finished, of course) it would be good enough to give as a gift. | |

| Shows you how nervous I was about posting-----Yes Julie---I changed it. Nope not hidden and naked-----it was obviously about optional onions. Of course, you could choose to eat onions bare while in the closet or under the bed. | |

Yuck!!! In a larger size with more details, your boat drawing would definitely make a nice gift, especially to nautically minded people.

| I love this drawing. I have a nautical theme in my den so I love anything dealing with the ocean--boats, lighthouses, sea shells. I would love to see it as it progresses. You have some talent, girl. Oh, one day I was telling someone my den was decorated in a nautical theme and he thought I said, "naughty." I told him that was in another room. | |

| Warercolor # 2 These are too large (18x24) to put on my scanner, so I had to take pics of them. Still working on the scribbled ones. | |

| I'm jealous. These are good.
Very different moods. Is the second one yellow, or is it the lighting? Nice reflection.
The land in the first one is so brown and bald. Like the waves, the people, and the birdies.

| Sharabella, you have such a delicate hand. They remind me of the two different seasons of the year. | |

| These are the one's he chose. The color is off a bit. The paper is a dark gray : He wanted a ship and a lighthouse. So I made him a matched set. | |

| He kept saying that they were going over the couch in the den, but "This one would look so great in the bedroom" that he offered to buy it. It was just a practice water-scribble, so I gave it to him too. It's really a bit darker than the photo. | |

| These are pretty! It always amazes me how much change a detail or two can make, like the teeny birds, or a ripple, or a dirt line.
A matched set over the couch sounds really nice.
No fault of yours, but lighthouses make me giggle.

Washington Monument, obelisks, missiles, torpedoes, submarines, bullets, cannons, billy clubs, fishing poles, bananas, pens, pencils, ice cream cones, lip sticks, ...

wow, so any kind of long item with a tip or a different size on top...is supposed to remind me of phallic items? Yikes.
Fishing poles? I don't even SEE the sexiness of that.
And bullets? I'm thinking homicides?

| Hum-----A little touch of obsession maybe?
Perhaps boats and lighthouses are a bit too suggestive, so it might be better if I scribbled barns----and silos.
