He's famous for playing gritty heroes in action-packed blockbusters.

But Gerard butler looked a far cry from his on-screen persona as he made his way through LAX in a casual ensemble on Tuesday.

Sporting an unkempt beard, the 45-year-old actor cut a low-key figure in shades and a trilby hat as he arrived at the the bustling airport in Los Angeles with a male pal and a mystery blonde.

Gerard, who shot to fame in 300, appeared in no mood to dally as he quickly cut through the busy hub - leaving his female friend to catch up.

The Scottish actor, who has been dating interior designer Morgan Brown for the last year, decided to keep things casual with his travelling attire.

He sported a plaid shirt, jeans and trainers and proved he's not above carrying his own luggage.
