Looks like Gerry might be in Australia for awhile. First for Gods of Egypt, then Point Break.

It's about to get gnarly! Point Break remake to film in Australia with Home and Away actor Luke Bracey and Gerard Butler

Producers of the blockbuster reboot of Point Break are '100 per cent' looking at coming to Australia to film scenes for the testosterone-filled action flick.

The news comes after former Home and Away actor Luke Bracey, 24, was cast in the film as Johnny Utah - the role made famous by Keanu Reeves back in 1991.

Big wave surfer Jamie Mitchell was in Hawaii with the Point Break crew as they shot stunts for the film last month at the famous Jaws break and confirmed the production would be coming Down Under.

Dream role: Aussie actor Luke Bracey has been cast as Johnny Utah in the Point Break remake

'Australia was 100 per cent on their radar,' he told the MailOnline.

'They could be going to Tahiti to do some shooting as well, but this would be so good for Australia.

'They were definitely doing some really good stunts in 20 to 25ft conditions at Jaws with Mike Trisler jumping off a helicopter and on to a boat.

'It was when the big swell came in and it was pretty cool.'

Hollywood stunt co-coordinator Trisler has worked extensively with film director Michael Bay on films such as his Transformers franchise and Pearl Harbor.

Mitchell - who is based in LA and works for Princess Charlene Of Monaco - said he would 'definitely' put his hand up as a stunt double when the film comes to Australia.

Point Break was originally directed by James Cameron's ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow in the Nineties, and also starred Patrick Swayze as adrenaline junkie and armed robber Bodhi.

A reboot was in the works back in 2009 and set to be filmed on the Gold Coast as an Australian-Singapore co-production, with Twilight star Cam Gigandet and Underbelly's Damian Walshe-Howling set to star.

The project fell through, with the remake laying dormant until Alcon Entertainment and RGM Media got the ball rolling again - casting Gerard Butler as Bodhi.

The timing could be perfect for an Australian shooting schedule, with Butler touching down in Sydney next month to begin work on Alex Proyas' $150m mythological epic Gods Of Egypt.

'The Gold Coast is the location producer's are looking at because of the water tank facilities at Village Roadshow studios,' said a prominent Australian director who did not wish to be named.

'There's also a great pool of talent there because of the local surfers like Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore who could pass as body doubles for the main actors.

'They're also looking at Ship Stern Bluff in Tasmania as a possible location.'

World champion surfer Mark Occhilupo - who starred in cult surfing flick North Shore in the eighties - is based on the Gold Coast and said there are plenty of surfers gearing up for the production.

'There's that many good surfers here that aren't on the (world) tour and that are perfect for it.

'They're tanned, fit as anything and can rip.

'It's going to be really exciting.'

Point Break could be a Hollywood breakthrough for Bracey, who had roles in Home and Away and Dance Academy in Australia, but is a relative unknown in the US with only bit parts in G.I Joe: Retaliation and Monte Carlo.

He beat out some big names for the role, including Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund and X-Men's Nicholas Hoult, with producers deciding to opt for someone more up and coming.

The film was a box-office hit, making $83m and becoming instantly quotable in pop culture for its over-the-top dialogue.

Cinematographer-turned-director Ericson Core is taking over the new version of the blockbuster, which is due for release in July, 2015.
