Gerard Butler suits up as he makes an appearance on Despierta America at Univision Studios on Tuesday morning (November 27) in Miami, Fla.

The 43-year-old actor, who was interviewed by host Karla Martinez, promoted his new film Playing For Keeps and talked about how he wished he was Latin.

“I wish I was Latin because everyone is from a different country, but there such a great camaraderie between everybody,” Gerard expressed. “All the women (Latinas) are unbelievably beautiful, and the guys are so fun. It’s a really nice atmosphere.”

Gerard Butler: I wish I had roots

Gerard Butler has joked that he wishes he was "a Latino" because of the "great camaraderie between people".

The actor made his debut appearance on Spanish TV by appearing on a morning show called Despierta America.

The Scottish actor was promoting his upcoming movie Playing for Keeps and admitted he felt overwhelmed by the cast on the high energy morning show.

"I wish I was a Latino because everyone is from a different country, but there such a great camaraderie between everybody," Gerard stuttered. "All the women [Latinas] are unbelievably beautiful, and the guys are so fun. It's a really nice atmosphere."

Gerard confessed he was suffering from jet lag during his interview with Mexican TV host Karla Martinez. The bemused actor joked he was feeling intimidated by the cast as a result of his sleep deprivation and inability to speak Spanish.

"It's intense, and I gotta say in this small space there's probably about 16 sugars, and about five servings of coffee, so it's like a jolt," Gerard joked. "I can't believe the energy in this place [the set], and I felt like I was coming into the lion's den. It's like the whole floor was shaking before I walked on. I don't know what's going on in there."

Gerard Butler: You Don’t Get This on Gringo TV!

Rough-and-tumble Hollywood star Gerard Butler must’ve felt like King Leonidas returning from war when he paid a surprise visit to the Miami set of Univision’s Despierta America!

The brooding thespian (300, The Bounty Hunter) was instantly surrounded by a gaggle of hotties fawning all over him — the popular show’s co-hosts Satcha Pretto, Cristina Blackwell, Ana Patricia Gonzalez and Karla Martinez.

Butler showed up unannounced to hawk his new romantic comedy, Playing for Keeps.

“All the soccer moms want him,” Butler said about the retired soccer star that he plays. “It’s like being here on Despierta America!”

But as it often is the case on Latin television, there was also a cross-dressing dude (below) who tried to have Butler salsa-dance, like, first thing in the morning!

Uh, Gerard. That’s Despierta America staple Raul Gonzalez playing character Dona Meche — not a real cleaning lady!

Latin Times article. I'm not sure why he's so jet lagged and only had had 3 hours sleep when he did the show on Tuesday. He flew into Miami on Sunday. Too much partying? Pics at link:

Gerard Butler: First Spanish Show “Despierta America”

Guess which A-list Hollywood star appeared in a Spanish morning show? The “300” star Gerard Butler attended his first ever Spanish show by appearing in Univision’s “Despierta America” (Wake Up America!).

Best known for his Herculean body in the movie “300,” Butler surprised everyone by visiting the cast of “Despierta America” (Wake Up America!) this week. Even though the Scottish actor only had 3 hours of sleep and was jet lagged, he still made it to the set to promote his upcoming movie, “Playing for Keeps.”

Upon arriving at the studio, the film star had his first ever Cuban coffee. He sipped the beverage in a tiny sample cup. When a host asked how he liked the coffee, he responded humorously.

“It’s intense, and I gotta say in this small space there’s probably about 16 sugars, and about 5 servings of coffee, so it’s like a jolt,” Butler comically joked.

Mexican TV host Karla Martinez interviewed Butler on his latest movie, as well as teaching him a little Spanish. The actor struggled with pronouncing Spanish words, and he professed that the only Spanish word he knew was “Sí.”

Butler told Martinez that he wish that he was Latin.

“I wish I was Latin because everyone is from a different country, but there such a great camaraderie between everybody. All the women (Latinas) are unbelievably beautiful, and the guys are so fun. It’s a really nice atmosphere,” Butler stated.

Amusingly, the celebrity even confessed that he was a little intimidated by the cast of “Despierta America”

“I can’t believe the energy in this place (the set), and I felt like I was coming into the lion’s den,” Butler lightheartedly admitted. “It’s like the whole floor was shaking before I walked on. I don’t know what’s going on in there.”

Martinez burst into laugher, and then, the character Doña Meche (impersonated by Venezuelan TV Host Raul Gonzalez) disrupted the interview by comically wooing the Hollywood actor.

“I remember the movie ‘300,’ and I have fallen in love with you,” Doña Meche desperately declared while carrying a sword.

“If you don’t know my name, it is SOFIA VERGARA. Do you want to marry me Papa? Please say yes, Papito, please!” Doña Meche begged.

Uncomfortable with the silly confrontation Gerard said, “No! I’m sorry.”

“Then who do you want to marry?” Doña Meche asked.

“I think I want to marry this one,” Butler jokingly stated while pointing at Mexican beauty queen/ TV host Ana Patricia Gonzalez.

As a mock jealously, Doña Meche attacked Ana Patricia Gonzalez because Butler preferred the Latina beauty, instead of Doña Meche’s outrageous advances. Afterwards, the film star feebly tried to rescue the damsel in distress.

Throughout the show, the Hollywood actor and the cast of “Despierta America” had a blast. In December, the film star will spend Christmas in Scotland with his family, and he will have plenty of Latin stories to share with his relatives during this holiday season.
