| Cazenovia's Siobhan Fallon Fallon in two films
Siobhan Fallon Hogan had never heard of Fred Figglehorn, much less Figglehorn’s teenage creator, Lucas Cruikshank. But her teenage daughter, Bernadette, knew all about Cruikshank, a 16-year-old YouTube sensation whose feature, “Fred,” has attracted more than 73 million channel views.
The Cazenovia-raised actress agreed to read the script for the youth’s movie, also titled “Fred,” because of her daughter and the fact it was written by David Goodman, the co-executive producer, frequent writer and sometimes actor on the cable hit “Family Guy.” She’s known him for years and admires his work.
Hogan spent the month of December in Los Angeles, filming the role of the mother, a character she describes as “a harsh woman, not your typical mother.”
She chuckles a bit when asked who is playing the father, but answers John Cena, the former pro wrestler turned actor.
She also played a guest role on a Disney Channel show to help promote the film. She expects it to be released in the spring, before Cruikshank grows out of the teenage craze.
Spring is also the time for her other motion picture to come out of the gate. “The Bounty Hunter” puts Hogan in the same movie as hot star Gerard Butler and A-lister Jennifer Aniston.
Hogan spent three weeks filming in Brooklyn, playing a bail bonds company president who hires Butler’s bounty hunter to bring in Aniston.
“I have big hair, bright nails and a New York accent,” she reports in a phone interview. No auditioning was necessary since she had worked for the main producer on her first film, “The Paper,” and for director Andy Tennant on “Fools Rush In.”
Courtesy of Butler, she received a big bonus, and it wasn’t money. When her character presents the down-and-out bounty hunter with his $5,000 check for completing the job, he grabs her and kisses her.
The actress says the kiss was terrific, adding that Butler is “a great guy.”
‘The Sound of Music’
Cazenovia College has decided on its spring presentation. It will offer the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music” April 9 to 11 and April 16 to 18 in the college’s Catherine Cummings Theatre.
Directed by David Lowenstein, artist-in-residence, the production will be a mix of college students, local residents and community theater performers.
‘American Idiot’ on stage
Michael Mayer, the Tony-winning director whose career was fostered at Ithaca’s Hangar Theatre, has a new project.
He’s been signed to direct the stage version of Green Day’s “American Idiot,” which rears its punk rock head on Broadway April 20.
Following a West Coast tryout, the show, based on the musical group’s album of the same name, is coming East to start previews March 24 at the St. James Theatre.
Mayer, who also collaborated on the musical’s book with Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, directed the Lab Theatre at Hangar in 1999. He won his Tony in 2007 as best musical director for “Spring Awakening.” | |
