Gerard Butler premieres Law Abiding Citizen in Glasgow

Scottish actor Gerard Butler returned to his hometown to premiere his latest film Law Abiding Citizen.

15 November 2009 21:35 PM

Scottish actor Gerard Butler has taken to the red carpet in his hometown of Glasgow for the premiere of his latest film Law Abiding Citizen.
Butler not only stars as a lead character in the film, but is also the producer with the movie being the first release of his production company, Evil Twins.

There’s even a sly Glasgow reference in Butler’s character name – Clyde Shelton. Shelton is an engineer who goes on a trail of revenge after a man isn’t convicted for the murder of his wife and daughter.

A big crowd lined the streets outside Glasgow’s Cineworld complex on Sunday night to try and catch a glimpse of the 40-year-old, who has shot to prominence in Hollywood in recent years.

The Butler clan was also well represented inside for the screening with over 70 family and friends of the star turning up to support their man. He was also accompanied by his mum on the red carpet and the pair posed for pictures.

Shunning the traditional UK premiere venue of London’s Leicester Square, Butler - dressed in full national costume - was overwhelmed with the support he received from the home crowd.

“It’s been extra special here tonight,” Butler told STV. “It was a big wave that hit me as I got out of the car. There was a lot of noise.
“To be able to come back to Glasgow and see that amount of people outside… you can’t ask for more than that.”

Butler gave an exclusive red carpet interview to STV at the premiere, which you can view from 8am on Monday November 16. To make sure you don’t miss it, bookmark http://entertainment.stv.tv or sign up for our STV Today newsletter here.

I was going to post another quick article about the Glasgow Premiere but the author actually wrote his mother's married name.

That steps over the mark for me.

Instead here is Just Jared and more of the love fest.

Nay, it's been written in articles before and I think it might be on some of the fansites with his stepfather's name as well. Her hometown has been printed as well. Just to let you know. It's been out there for years. But I can understand not wanting to promote it.

Hmmm, I'm sure you're right, Tex. I guess I'm kinda clueless on a lot of Butlerdom, seeing as I'm pretty new to it (post 300). I guess it's always good to err on the side of caution, though. Not that the info isn't out there, but heaven forbid some crazy loon uses it for bad and says he/she found it here on Pantry.

I haven't seen the interview yet. Good Lord, there are SO MANY of them out there now these past few months, I can't keep up anymore...which is why I rely on y'all to use good judgment. Wink

The star glitters, but not in Glasgow!
December 1, 2009

Gerard Butler - currently one of Hollywood’s most successful movie stars - had fans from around the world waiting for hours to see him in Glasgow at the UK premiere of his film Law Abiding Citizen.

While Glasgow citizens were largely unaware of his presence, LOCAL NEWS GLASGOW caught up with Aleksandra Pastuszak and Monika Holowiecka who attended.

‘What was surprising was that many people did not even know who he was,’ said Monika Holowiecka, a Polish student at Glasgow University.

Monika has followed Butler’s career since he first came to prominence in roles such as Coriolanus and in the stage version of Trainspotting.

Fellow student, Aleksandra Pastuszak added: ‘Some of the Scottish fans and people involved in the premiere event did not know that the actor was a Scotsman!

‘In the crowd at the cinema there were more people from out of Glasgow, than from the city itself, which was quite surprising.’

On Sunday 15 November - the day after his own 40th birthday - Glasgow’s Cineworld on Renfrew Street unrolled the red carpet for the Paisley born, Glasgow University honours graduate, Gerard who was greeted enthusiastically by loyal fans from the United States, Denmark and Poland.

He arrived, wearing a kilt, and wrote autographs and gave interviews before the premiere began at 7pm.

The film, which will be in cinemas from Friday 27 November, was attended by special guests including Gerard’s family and friends.

As he left by a back door, he was stopped by a small group of dedicated fans who had waited for nearly an hour to say goodbye to him. He got out of his car, wrote autographs and thanked them for waiting and said: ‘Go see the movie!’

A Cineworld supervisor told the LOCAL NEWS that the Glasgow premiere was one of the biggest events organised by that cinema.
