Women frustrate the hell out of me: Butler

Women are crazy about you. Would you rather know everything about a woman or let there still be some mystery?
That’s a good question. We’re still trying to figure each other out. At the end of the day, we just have to agree to disagree. I’ll never figure her out completely and she’ll never totally understand me. Women frustrate the hell out of me but God, I do love them! If we were all the same, it would be boring and maybe there wouldn’t be that friction. As they say, the best part of breaking up is the making up!

Being a Scot and working in American movies – does it take time for you to get the American accent right?
That’s not the only problem about being a Scotsman in America! A Scotsman is always saying things that make people stop and get people to take a second look (laughs). So, we can be a bit unpredictable.

With the way things are going for you professionally, you must be a happy man. What are the other new projects you are involved with?
Well, there’s The Bounty, Law Abiding Citizen, Gamer and I’m also doing a voiceover for the animated film How To Train Your Dragon. Then there’s my restaurant too. We serve delicious stuff. But I’m very much a silent partner and don’t have that much to do with it.

From 300 and RocknRolla to PS I Love You... Was it easy to flit between the two very different genres – one hard and gritty and the other soft and funny?
Not really. From the second Mike explodes on the screen doing his show, in my next film, literally every second word had me laughing. I knew I wanted to do this. I have never really played a guy like this before. Mike is a big personality who says some risky things and that’s part of me. He also has some proactive philosophies about relationships and sex. To be honest, when guys hear all of this, they’ll admit that they’ve had those thoughts. Many are outrageous and are pushing the boundaries to new levels of outrageousness. I have to be careful when I answer these questions because this could all come back and kill me. People will say, ‘How dare that bastard say that?’

How was the experience of working with Katherine Heigl, who has also done some comedy films in the past?
We had a lot of fun together. She is an amazing woman. She is so smart and razor-sharp sexy. Every woman I’ve ever worked with is really brilliant. Katie never makes a mistake. Within two rehearsals, she is just there and then goes further. I’m a little more scattered than that. She was also my boss, my producer. I never felt the weight of her as a producer. I just produced a movie and probably came across too much as a producer. I honestly expected her to be this goody-two-shoes on the sets, but she is actually a bit crazy.

Sequels to films like 300 and RocknRolla are also being planned. Have you heard anything on that front?
Nope, not yet.

Gerry, you frustrate the hell out of me!

Looks like a cut and paste and some questions from the TUT press conference. The article makes it sound like Butler is talking solely about himself when I think he is also framing it around the movie - but either way, I don't really care. It's kind of generic.

I'm waiting for something a little more revealing and/or interesting. Otherwise, I can do without seeing/hearing from him for awhile. I blame the plaid shirt.
