Butler Is A Commitment-phobe

Gerard Butler is wary of falling in love and committing to a relationship - because it makes him feel vulnerable.

The actor has recently had to fend off a series of reports he's dating his The Bounty co-star Jennifer Aniston.

He is adamant his reputation as a ladies man is not accurate, insisting that being single does not mean he's a Lothario.

But he has confessed he shuns commitment - because he's so used to being on his own.

Butler tells Britain's Ok! magazine, "I live very much in my own head and I don't always like that somebody else is playing such a big part in your mind and your psyche. It's tough to deal with that vulnerability because I still have that element of 'I can't do this! I can do this on my own! I'm all right! - and then suddenly, someone holds this power over you.

"Men are much more weak and vulnerable than they let on. I am full of phobias about commitment. Yet, when you break through those barriers, it's great."

Join the club, Butler. EVERYONE that has half an ounce of brain in their head is scared of committment. Truth is, I think he LIKES being single. The thought of monogamy scares him because he doesn't know what the heck he wants.

Not saying there's anything wrong with that - I'm the same way. You get burned enough times, you're afraid to put your hand close to the fire again.

There are pros and cons in both worlds. You just have to decide which side of the fence you prefer to LIVE on (and I ain't talking straddling it, either).

Yes, His Holiness the Pope, the little German, is catholic.

Yes, His Horniness the Butler, the little Scotsman, is shy and retiring.

One of these statements is false and one is true. Can you tell which?

Another article along the same lines:

Gerard Butler opens up about 'miserable' love life

GERARD BUTLER has destroyed the myth that Hollywood hunks can easily score dates - insisting his love life is "pretty miserable".

The 300 star has gained a tabloid reputation as a ladies' man after he was linked to a string of beautiful women, including actresses Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz.

But he insists it's a struggle to find suitable female companions since being thrust into the limelight as a successful actor.

Butler says, "Love is something that I've definitely felt a couple of times. It never worked out, it made me nuts, but I absolutely want to experience it again. And it's about f**king time!

"I've definitely had lots of fun. Now I'm more serious about things - I don't mess around anywhere near like I used to. It was a lot more fun when I was under the radar. Now going on a date is going to be well publicised. I would be lying if I said my love life is amazing at the moment. It's actually pretty miserable."

http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/butlers-dating-disasters_1112518

GERARD BUTLER once tried to impress a girl he was dating by smashing a glass on his head - but ended up bloodied and bruised as his bizarre party trick backfired.

The actor has recently had to fend off a series of reports he's dating his The Bounty co-star Jennifer Aniston and he has also been linked to actress Cameron Diaz.

But his romantic history has been marred with a series of disasters - including a woman who vomited on him and cutting his head open with a glass.

He says, "I've had some terrible dates. I had a girl throw up (vomit) once - I'm from Glasgow, people like to get smashed (drunk).
"I went on another date and I ended up getting so drunk that I smashed a glass on my head as a joke and didn't realise my head was bleeding. Those were my crazy days.

"I also went on a date once and at the end the girl went to the toilet, so I went to the toilet too but when she came out she thought I'd left and went. That was a pretty abrupt end to a date."

Just pondering stuff today:

At the risk of rehashing old conversations regarding Gerry's lifestyle, I was wondering how much stock you guys put into the crap, the comments posted at such sites as Just Jared.

Now...well, I mean as to his randy behavior and the gals who claim they've slept with him, that girls are gathered up by assistants for Gerry's perusal. There was one post, which was a repost of a young girl's blog--a supposed writing assignment---in which she describes hooking up with Gerry in 2008, going to his apartment, being disappointed by his lovemaking, etc etc...Then, the commenters were arguing that she removed her posted under "duress", and later claimed it was all untrue and simply a writing assignment. Others say that, yeah, the details add up so it must be true.

Then, of course, was the Strongbox thingy. And of course there are other women out there claiming to have hooked up with him. So, even if a gal got with him would it be noteworthy? Enough to blog in public? Do ya think his people pressure his conquests into not speaking out? Is there no such thing as a normal date or get-together with him? Is he so vastly insecure as to have others get the phone numbers?

I mean, really. What do you think?

Troubling is...he does have great on-air persona, usually goofy-funny with the public; hilarious. But is he this ugly, self-absorbed player out for booty when he's on his own time?

And is that so bad if there are plenty other guys just like that in the world?

I don't know. I'm just pondering the rumor mill regarding Gerry...yet again.

He's no saint. He can do whatever.

I'm not sure what to think, Peege. I do know that it's been my experience in life that when you want to get to the truth between two vastly opposing opinions, you'll usually find it lying somewhere in the middle.

I'm not a person who will put Gerry, or any celebrity for that matter, on a pedestal. In fact I think it does that person a grave disservice to do so, because you're putting a standard on them that they cannot live up to. I don't preach "the beauty of his soul" and all that sort of thing. I don't think Gerry's a bad person. I think he has a good heart, and he just is what he is - not a saint by any means, but not a devil either. He's just a bloke who made some movies, got some recognition, and is now in the spotlight. By the same token, living that life does change a person. I don't care what any celebrity tells me about being 'down to earth'. You might be that way to a point, but when you have assistants catering to your every whim - aka maids to clean your house, managers to take care of your personal business, lackeys to hold your umbrella, drivers to take you where you want to go, security guarding your person, and hoardes of women throwing themselves at you with no regard to self-respect or dignity - well, I would say it's bound to change a person's perspective eventually.

I don't believe the gossip sites as the last word, per se, when it comes to talking about the life of a celeb, but there's always a little truth in some gossip.

Peege, that is the start of a damn fine discussion. Thanks!

Basically, I believe little of what I read in magazines and on gossip sites and half of what I see in real life. There's always the hint of truth followed by a strong whiff of deceit around the lives of celebrities. That said, it makes for entertaining escapism.

In modern times, so much is manufactured by PR and management teams but what's worse is that assume the reading public are dumb enough to believe it all. Once upon a time, a film studio such as Warner would own the actors and coddle develop their image and career as part of their commitment. That secure umbrella doesn't exist anymore for good reasons but it has made the arena of public actors and their personal lives a free-for-all. I suspect GB may have been better suited to the older model but then would he have obeyed orders??

In this instance, I have no difficulty in believing that Senor Butler is a commitment phobic hardcase. Whether that translates him into a love-rat, a douchebag, a scary individual, an ex-alcoholic, a juvenile putz or a normal-ish male headed for middle-age and not reacting well to a celebrity lifestyle and all of its demands and trappings - I'm still deciding.
